The U.S. is approaching the July 16 transition to 988 – the easy-to-remember number to reach the existing National Suicide Prevention Lifeline. This transition is an important step to strengthening and transforming the crisis care continuum in the U.S. See below for more details:

  • you can call or text 9-8-8 to reach the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline
  • you can still call or text 1-800-273-8255 to reach the Suicide Crisis Lifeline.
  • you can press 1 for Vets Crisis Line
  • you can press 2 for Spanish
  • 711/TTY is still available by dialing 1-800-273-8255
  • Find hope. Find help. Talk, chat, text.

To help partners communicate about 988, SAMHSA offers a 988 Partner Toolkit featuring downloadable print files for wallet cards, magnets, and posters, logo and brand guidelines , key messages, frequently asked questions, fact sheets (English and Spanish), and more.
