Attachment Biobehavioral Catch-up (ABC; Dozier et al., 2006) is a 10-week, home visiting parenting program primarily families with infants and toddlers (ages 6 months-2 years). The treatment approach is designed to help caregivers provide nurturing care and engage in synchronous interactions with their children.
ABC uses parent coaching to help caregivers increase their recognition of infant cues and re-interpret children's behavioral signals to enhance sensitivity and healthy attachment security. In turn, children are better able to regulate their behavior. It was developed primarily for use with low-income African American, Hispanic, and non-Hispanic White families who have experienced neglect, physical abuse, domestic violence, and placement instability.
