This 90-minute didactic and interactive webinar addresses culturally informed theoretical and clinical conceptualizations of loss, sorrow, and mourning as markers for the Latino soul in grief. Case material is offered to ground conceptualizations and illustrate the clinical process of Latino patients in treatment at Guadalupe Counseling and Psychological Services in Santa Barbara, California. Presenting problems typically include COVID-19 related mood disorders, behavioral disorders, interpersonal/marital discord, and alcohol/drug abuse. Culturally informed therapeutic interventions are delineated and discussed as well as common therapeutic impasses in the treatment of Latinos in grief. Why Latinx? 'Latinx' is a term that acknowledges the gender binary inherent in the Spanish language and attempts to be inclusive of the entirety of the gender spectrum. As a result of our targeted audience for our teaching and learning services, El Futuro has decided to use the term 'Latinx' in La Mesita programming. However, we continue to use the terms 'Latino/Latina' in our clinical work. We hold no expectation of other organizations or individuals to make similar linguistic decisions.
